MLB The Show 26 Hitting Tips That Actually Work Online

Hitting online in MLB The Show 26 feels completely different from playing offline. You can dominate CPU pitchers on All-Star difficulty, then jump into Ranked Seasons and suddenly look lost against someone throwing inside sinkers every pitch.

A lot of beginner guides repeat the same generic advice, but online play is mostly about reaction speed, pitch recognition, and building habits that hold up under pressure. After spending time grinding online games, these are the hitting tips that consistently make the biggest difference.

Start With the Right Hitting Settings

The first thing you should do is switch to the Zone Hitting Interface and use either Strike Zone or Strike Zone High camera.

This setup gives you the clearest possible view of the ball coming out of the pitcher’s hand. The tighter camera also removes a lot of visual clutter from stadium backgrounds and helps you recognize pitch movement earlier.

If you stay on directional hitting or one of the zoomed-out cameras, online velocity becomes much harder to react to. Fastballs look faster, sliders look sharper, and PCI placement becomes inconsistent.

Most competitive players use:

  • Zone Hitting
  • Strike Zone or Strike Zone High camera
  • Button input
  • Normal Swing as the default swing type

Power swings can work occasionally, but online they shrink the PCI too much. Against players throwing high velocity with good sequencing, consistency matters more than raw power.

Your Display Setup Matters More Than You Think

A huge number of hitting problems are actually hardware problems.

If you are playing on a large TV without Game Mode enabled, you are probably dealing with input delay. Even a tiny delay makes online fastballs feel impossible to catch up to.

A gaming monitor with a high refresh rate helps a lot, but if you use a TV, make sure:

  • Game Mode is turned on
  • Motion smoothing is disabled
  • Input lag reduction settings are enabled

These small changes can make timing windows feel noticeably better.

Clean Up Your PCI

Many players overload the PCI with too many visual elements.

A cleaner PCI helps you focus on the baseball itself instead of staring at distracting circles and outlines.

A setup that works well online:

  • Remove inner PCI lines
  • Remove outer PCI lines
  • Use a small center dot or weapon-style center
  • Turn on Background Blur

Background Blur especially helps in stadiums with poor batter’s eyes or bright crowd backgrounds.

In MLB The Show 26, the PCI Sensitivity Slider is also worth adjusting. If you constantly yank your PCI too far across the zone, lower the sensitivity slightly.

Starting around 65% to 70% is a good balance for many players. As your thumb control improves, you can gradually increase it.

Watch the Pitcher’s Release Point

One of the biggest mistakes online players make is watching the entire pitcher animation.

Instead, focus directly on the release point.

Your eyes should lock onto the pitcher’s throwing hand right before the ball leaves it. This gives your brain more time to identify pitch speed and movement.

During the first inning, don’t feel pressured to swing at everything. Taking a few pitches early helps you learn:

  • Their favorite pitch sequences
  • Fastball velocity
  • Breaking ball movement
  • Release angles
  • Tunneling patterns

Good online hitters gather information early and attack later.

Sit Fastball, React to Offspeed

This is probably the most important online hitting tip.

Always gear your timing toward the fastball.

Online players love throwing:

  • Inside sinkers
  • Up-and-in fastballs
  • Cutters on the hands
  • High velocity outlier pitches

If you are mentally sitting on offspeed pitches, you simply will not catch up consistently.

It is much easier to start your swing for heat and then check yourself against a breaking ball than it is to react late to 102 MPH.

A lot of online hitting is basically controlled anticipation.

Use PCI Anchoring

PCI Anchoring is one of the most useful features in competitive play.

If your opponent repeatedly attacks one location, pre-anchor your PCI there before the pitch.

For example:

  • Against high-and-in fastball spammers, anchor up and in
  • Against sinker-heavy pitchers, anchor low
  • Against players who backdoor sliders constantly, shade toward glove side

Anchoring reduces the distance your PCI needs to travel and improves reaction consistency.

You still need to move the PCI manually, but starting closer to the expected pitch location helps a lot.

Stop Swinging at Borderline Pitches

A huge jump in online performance comes from improving plate discipline.

Many players lose games because they constantly swing at:

  • Low sliders
  • Changeups below the zone
  • Sinkers just off the corner
  • Early-count junk pitches

When you are ahead in the count, force the pitcher into the zone.

In 2-0 or 3-1 counts, you should be hunting one specific pitch in one specific location. If the ball is not there, take it.

A surprising number of online opponents panic once they fall behind in the count.
