step-by-step Waze walking guide

Step-by-Step Waze Walking Guide

1️⃣ Download and Install Waze   step-by-step Waze walking guide

  • If you haven’t already, download the Waze app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).

  • Install and open the app.

2️⃣ Sign In or Create an Account

  • You can use Waze without an account, but signing in lets you save favorite places and sync data.

  • Use your Google account, Facebook, or email.

3️⃣ Check Waze’s Supported Modes

  • ⚠️ Important: Waze is primarily designed for driving, not walking. It does not have a dedicated pedestrian mode like Google Maps.

  • However, you can still use it to get directions for short walking distances in areas where driving routes overlap with walking paths.

4️⃣ Enter Your Destination

  • Tap the search bar (“Where to?”).

  • Type your destination address or select it from your saved places.

5️⃣ Set Your Starting Point

  • By default, Waze uses your GPS location. If you’re planning ahead, you can set a different starting point by tapping the “...” or options menu.

6️⃣ Review the Route

  • Waze will show you the fastest driving route. For short distances, you can follow this route on foot — but be cautious, as it might not include footpaths or pedestrian shortcuts.

7️⃣ Start Navigation

  • Tap “Go” to start navigation.

  • Waze will guide you turn-by-turn with voice and on-screen instructions.

8️⃣ Stay Safe

  • If you’re walking, stay aware of your surroundings — Waze’s routes are car-based, so they may direct you along highways or roads that aren’t pedestrian-friendly.

  • For safer pedestrian routes, use Google Maps, which has a walking mode with sidewalks, crossings, and footpaths.

9️⃣ End Trip

  • When you reach your destination, simply stop the navigation and close the app.

✅ Tip: Better Alternative for Walking

While Waze can technically be used for walking if you’re familiar with the area, Google Maps or Apple Maps are far better suited for pedestrians. They include dedicated walking directions, estimate walking times, show footpaths, and suggest the safest routes.
